Indian Beach, NC

Everybody has a different idea of the “perfect” vacation destination. For some, it’s a thriving city filled with nightlife and entertainment. For others, it’s a serene resort tucked along the rolling fairways of a golf course. For you, it’s a quiet stretch of white-sand shoreline gazing out over the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Sound about right? Then it’s time to learn more about Indian Beach, NC.

Indian Beach is a small, upscale town tucked between the Atlantic Ocean and the Bogue Sound that sits in the middle of the barrier island of Bogue Banks. Taking up a total area of 2-square miles, the town was officially established in 1973. Indian Beach is a picturesque and serene community where water is never more than a few short minutes away. Home to beach lovers, boaters, anglers, and paddlers alike, Indian Beach is the perfect place for those who never want to stray too far from the water.

From Ocean to Forest

With miles of pristine coastline and plenty of ways to access the water, Indian Beach is best known for its beautiful beaches. Indian Beach and Salter Path Public Beach are popular public beaches, though it is possible to access both the Atlantic and the Bogue Sound from just about anywhere in town. With plenty of secluded beach to go around, there is no need to battle any crowds for a good slice of sandy real estate. Its quiet beaches also make Indian Beach a popular destination for sea turtles; every year, visitors come to watch hundreds of baby turtles hatch in the sand and scurry for the safety of the waves.

Sound side in Indian Beach lies the Bogue Sound. Part of the Intracoastal Waterway, the Bogue Sound is an ideal destination for anyone seeking a waterfront adventure—yachters, boaters, anglers, and paddlers. Head out to open waters from a deepwater marina, or launch a kayak or canoe into one of Indian Beach's inlets to explore a more secluded waterway. And the fishing is pretty amazing whether you stand on the shore, head out in a boat, or even take to the ocean near Indian Beach.

Need a break from all the water? You don’t actually have to leave Indian Beach.— The Theodore Roosevelt Natural Area offers 265 acres of wild maritime forest along a high dune ridge between salt marsh and Bogue Sound. It offers two walking trails for forest exploration, as well as benches and wildlife viewing areas throughout the area of wooded and marshy terrain. There’s also plenty of picnicking, hiking, and biking throughout town, with bustling shops and restaurants easily connected by a short bike ride or walk. It is also home to the North Carolina Aquarium.

Attractions
