Community Service: Houses for Sale in Emerald Isle, NC

IS EMERALD ISLE the RIGHT BEACH TOWN FOR YOU?

PART THREE

This is the third in a series of blogs exploring whether or not Emerald Isle, NC is the right beach town for you. When you have the financial wherewithal to purchase a vacation or second home here in Emerald Isle, NC, you have earned a membership in a fairly exclusive club. Congratulations! Earning that membership has its privileges. And, one of those privileges is the gift of time: as in the time to appreciation good food and beverages, or the time to enjoy recreational activities, and, lastly, the time to improve your community.

So, let’s discover if Emerald Isle, NC is deserving of your time. In previous blogs, I demonstrated that Emerald Isle, NC does have the beverages and good food to satisfy even the most discriminating palate and that Emerald Isle has a plethora of recreational options. In this blog, we examine whether or not Emerald Isle, NC offers meaningful community service opportunities.

Turning to the third question, does Emerald Isle offer opportunities to do meaningful community service? I’ll let you decide. For starters, Blood Drives are held in Emerald isle every 2 months. There is always a need for people to publicize the event, to register people, and to hand out cookies and drinks to the people that donate. Become a tutor. The Carteret Literacy Council provides the training for you to teach those who need assistance to improve their reading, writing, and math skills.

Many people walk the beach every day as members of the Civitan Club and pick up any trash they see. The Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Department always seeks volunteers to assist at community events. Join the Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Protection Program and walk the beach each day during turtle nesting season to identify new turtle nests, and to make sure the beach is in proper condition during turtle hatching season. Volunteer at the Fire Department or the EMS. Firefighters are always needed, but there is also a need for public educators, photographers, truck operators. Or become a Friend of the Western Carteret Library. This group has been one of our biggest success stories. Through book sales, yard sales, donations, and a lot of hard work, the Friends went from no library, to a state of the art library and learning center. Why not venture afield and learn some fascinating local history and volunteer to give tours of beautiful old Ft. Macon in nearby Atlantic Beach or Shackelford Banks or Cape Lookout?

So, did Emerald Isle pass the audition as your ideal beach town? It did for me and thousands of other people just like you who have earned the privilege of the gift of time to enjoy quality food and beverages, limitless exercise options and meaningful volunteer opportunities.
