Hurricane Dorian was rather benign, relatively speaking
NBC News reported that "...Hurricane Dorian leaves NC island town wondering if it can recover." That town is Emerald Isle and this headline could not be further from the truth.
By the time Hurricane Dorian arrived along the Crystal Coast early Friday morning September 6th, it had been downgraded to a Category 1 storm. The eye remained offshore as the storm brushed Bogue Banks.
Many homeowners here in Emerald Isle expressed relief that there wasn't significant destruction to real estate outside damage caused by a waterspout spun out by one of the outer bands of Hurricane Dorian on Thursday which struck the Boardwalk RV park and a camper storage lot. No one was hurt in the incident.
"There was absolutely no damage to my home," said Lenny Julius an Emerald Isle resident.
The curfew in Emerald Isle was lifted at 12 noon on Friday the 6th and it was a lovely weather weekend for residents and vacationers, alike. I even showed property that weekend.
Coming to the Crystal Coast is not only about getting a tan or about escaping the hustle and bustle every day life presents or about buying and selling real estate. . The Crystal Coast is an angler's paradise. With this thought in mind, the Town of Emerald Isle is holding its first Fall Fishing Tournament on September 21st. The fishing event has three separate divisions: King and Spanish Mackerel, Surf and Kayak. Also, there will be contests for children, a silent auction and many other activities that will provide fun for the entire family!
If you need more reasons to visit our island, post Dorian, consider attending Beaufort's Craft Beer Festival (September 27) or the Sunset Cruise followed by dinner at the Sanitary Fish Restaurant (September 21.)
