Time to Look: Houses for Sale in Emerald Isle, NC

Updated: Jan 23, 2020

Winter Time is the IDEAL Time to Look at Homes

If you think of Emerald Isle as a summer-only destination, you’re missing out! During the winter months, late December through mid-March, escape the snow and head to Emerald Isle ,NC for a beach getaway. When you visit Emerald Isle in the off-season, you will get to enjoy Emerald Isle like the locals do! Whether you’re visiting for the holidays or you want to start your year off the right way, let me suggest a few things to do in and around Emerald Isle, NC that are worth experiencing this winter season.

First, and foremost, REVEL in the Mild Weather

I’ll admit it — we locals really don’t know what real cold is. That’s what most of my customers and clients from up north say when they see me shivering in mid-60 weather. My low tolerance for the cold makes sense when you consider that temperatures usually only drop into the high-50s, even during the coldest months of the year, January and February. Heck, most winter days, I get around with a hoodie or a sweater. And, for this temperate climate, we can the thank the Gulf Stream, that warm water "river" that is only 60 miles off the coast of Emerald Isle, NC

Second, Attend a Fun Event

Some of our favorite events in Emerald Isle happen during the winter months! For example, in the next week you can experience one of this region’s most iconic events is the Crystal Coast Countdown. There are several events all along the coastline, including Beaufort, Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, and (of course) Emerald Isle! You have your choice of ways to ring in the new year.

On December 31st, Morehead City's Downtown Countdown will bring family fun to the waterfront on New Year’s Eve. Join in the fun beginning at 5pm for activities for all ages. Enjoy watching the fire department drop the kid’s crab pot drop and children’s activities from 5pm- 6pm at Big Rock Landing. Local businesses and restaurants will provide activities and bands throughout the evening. End the night at midnight with the big crab pot drop downtown and a fireworks show for all downtown to enjoy.

Tonight, the Brierwood Ensemble presents Candlelight Christmas at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Beaufort, NC. The concert features festive works by French Baroque composers Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Elizabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre, and Jean-Marie LeClair, along with Caroline Lizotte’s contemplative harp lullaby La Madone and traditional carols.

Tomorrow, come to Shortway Brewing Co in Newport for some of the finest craft beer and share your passion for performing with others. Open mic is not limited to musicians, feel free to share the stand up act you’ve been working on or some poetry you’ve finally perfected.

On Tuesday, the 24th, 34° North Restaurant is serving a Dickens’ Christmas Eve dinner! Executive Chef Stephen Jordan has created two traditional Victorian dishes along with 19th century inspired cocktails. With great food and a fantastic selection of wine pairings, there is nothing humbug about this special evening. Heighten your holiday spirit and merriment by donning your best waistcoat and top hat, and join the staff dressed in Victorian-era garb.

Also on Tuesday, in Atlantic Beach the Island Grille will be serving it Feast of the Seven Fishes with scallops, calamari and other delicious catches from the sea.

On Wednesday, Christmas Day, executive Chef Stephen Jordan and his culinary team have created a Christmas Day à la carte dinner menu. From delicious side dishes and appetizers to main meals and desserts, 34° North Restaurant welcomes you to their house for a family Christmas dinner.

In Emerald Isle, on December 27th, Sulli, a solo acoustic artist, will be performing at Emerald Isle’s legendary night spot, the Growler.

Start every weekend in Emerald Isle in a festive manner by visiting Flip Flops Donuts for fresh, hand made donuts.

Third, Take a Day Trip

While Emerald Isle’s attractions are summer-based (like the Emerald Isle water park), there are plenty of cities that are just a short drive away that feature fun things to do. The NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is a fun place to take the kids for an afternoon. They’ll love seeing all the amazing animals, and you’ll enjoy learning about the local ecosystem. And, I always enjoy walking about Fort Macon any time of the year! Be sure to check their calendar to see if there are any special events going on during your trip!
