Buying a house in Emerald Isle, NC or anywhere else along the Crystal Coast is more like running a marathon than it is sprinting a 100 meter dash. With that being said, a key to finishing a marathon is not running into The Wall a condition of sudden fatigue and loss of energy which is caused by the depletion of glycogen stores in the liver and muscles. Milder instances can be remedied by brief rest and the ingestion of food or drinks containing carbohydrates.
This is why I tell all my customers and clients to eat a good breakfast (AKA Stoke the fires) before we go looking at houses in Emerald Isle. Since many of my customers and clients don't live on the Crystal Coast full time, I thought it would be a good idea to highlight some local places to get a good breakfast.
Surf's Up on the Bogue Inlet Pier offers a stunning view and a hearty breakfast on the weekend. The menu highlights include omelettes, pancakes, sausage, bacon and nice hospitality.
Close by is The Trading Post. Formerly known to locals at Mike's, this establishment on Emerald Drive offers chicken and waffles, country ham with red eye gravy, french toast along with the more traditional breakfast fares.
A half mile to the east is The Village Market. Here, you can order a variety of omelettes, from Greek to vegetarian to carnivore and everything in between. My personal favorite is the fried bologna and eggs, a tip of the cap to the New Jersey diner classic.
My favorite place for breakfast in Emerald Isle is Flip Flops Donuts because, well, I own the place. Flip Flops Donuts have been described by customers not only as the lightest, fluffiest, best-tasting pastries they ever tasted but also the most generous in value. Our Flip Flops Donuts are the favorite breakfast food and day and night snack food option for the tens of thousands vacationers who visit Emerald Isle and the Crystal Coast every year along as well as the locals who call the Crystal Coast home. Flip Flops Donuts follows a 100 year old, original recipe using high quality, specially blended flour, pure vegetable shortening, and rich spices selected from among the world’s best.
Flip Flops Donut Shop only makes hand made, made fresh, yeast donuts...DAILY!!
Our ring-shaped donuts are glazed and can be topped with chocolate or maple icing. Our filled donuts are injected with custard, butter creme, fruit preserves (a jelly donut) or Oreo cookies. And, you must order Flip Flops donuts version on the cinnamon twist. Hint: it is about the size of your forearm!
Come watch the baker and fryer mix, cure, roll, cut, proof, fry and glaze our classic yeast-raised Flip Flops Donuts at 7702 Emerald Drive (between Live Oak and Cedar Streets)
Off island, my favorite place for breakfast in Yana's in Swansboro. Yana’s officially opens at 7 a.m., but on most days, several tables of regulars had already finished their morning meal by then. Terry Atwood, the lead cook and a 20-year veteran, has been here since 3:30 a.m. making gravy, chowder, chili, grits, and other staples for the morning rush. My "go to" order is not on the menu. But, if you order two sausage biscuits, and coffee, you will be fueled for the morning.
When you are ready to buy or sell property here on the Crystal Coast, start by calling or texting me at 919-308-2292 or send an email to DRaczkowski@fathomrealty.com. I'll make certain that you are properly educated and well-fueled to cross the finish line!
