The Most Affordable Beach Town on the Outer Banks

Southern Living Magazine calls Swansboro, North Carolina one of the most affordable beach towns for homebuyers looking to live on or near the Outer Banks. As a real estate agent, I couldn’t agree more. Swansboro is a quaint port town that offers plenty of ocean access, lots of fun things to do, and affordable prices for those who want to experience coastal living without hemorrhaging money. At the minute, the Swansboro boasts of median home listing prices that come in at an affordable $310,050 in the form of townhouses, cottages, and other single-family home styles. The “Friendly City by the Sea” also boasts a charming historic downtown and a thriving fishing community surrounded by a welcoming atmosphere that draws in potential homebuyers from across the country. FRom its quaint and historic waterfront, to its miles of pristine and undeveloped beaches, Swansboro offers residents a relaxing waterfront retreat set within one of the most beautiful outdoor playgrounds in the Southeast. .A huge draw to the area is Swansboro’s historic downtown district where you’ll find a bustling area filled with shops, art galleries, boutiques and waterside parks. In the evenings take a stroll down the boardwalk at Bicentennial Park or enjoy a unique dining experience at one of the many delicious waterfront restaurants or bistros. Enjoy outdoor living all year long in Swansboro, NC with activities such as hiking, boating, fishing, kayaking and more. Across the Intracoastal Waterway lie miles of unspoiled beaches and maritime forest on nearby Bear Island and Hammock’s Beach State Park. The park and island are only accessible by ferry, private boat, or by paddling in a canoe or kayak.Swansboro also is home to one of North Carolina’s first seafood festivals, the Mullet Festival and boasts several other popular events throughout the year. The town also served as the backdrop for Nicholas Sparks novel “The Guardian.”

After a year of uncertainty due to the pandemic, “many have realized that settling down in a beach town with its calming vistas and easy access to nature, is very desirable.” In the last year, the need and want to work from home has skyrocketed and changed the way the world views a work-life balance. We have begun prioritizing what is most important in life, such as our quality time with friends and family and our after-hours lifestyle. Here, on the Crystal Coast we realize sometimes it’s best to take a break from the norm and experience the beach state-of-mind each and every day. With the motto of working to live rather than living to work in mind, the Crystal Coast helps its residents recognize the need to step away from the workplace and into a more freeing environment that drastically improves one’s attitude towards life. Here, in a matter of minutes, residents can watch a glorious Crystal Coast sunrise or sunset, cycle white sand beaches, or take the boat out on the dreamy emerald waters for an evening cruise. To be sure, we who live on the Crystal Coast understand the desire to work from paradise while being aware of the state of the world we live in. We have coined the term “Coastal Distancing” to emphasize ways to stay safe on the Crystal Coast while continuing to feel relaxed in our coastal paradise. There are plenty of regulations in place so you and your family can be safe and enjoy the many amenities the Crystal Coast and Swansboro have to offer.

Along with a better work/life balance, living where you love to vacation provides residents with a fresh, positive mindset. Ask me how I know. I am minutes from my donut shop and working remotely at my real estate business gives me the flexibility to give my clients the utmost service. Is it any wonder, I can’t stop grinning? And, what works for me will work for you, whether you locate in Swansboro or any other Crystal Coast community. Eliminating a long daily work commute will decrease the amount of stress and sick days in your life, save you thousands of dollars in gas and transportation costs, and improve local environmental conditions.
