But you can also venture out from your Emerald Isle vacation rental and immerse yourself in nature. Here are some of the best places to get out and enjoy the natural world during your beach vacation here with us. Explore more! After all, Emerald Isle is always enticing you to get outside and when you succumb to its sirens, here are places to go!
Plan a Trip to Emerald Isle Woods Park This is one of my favorite places to experience nature in Emerald Isle. Indeed, you can usually find me walking here on a daily basis. Emerald Isle Woods Park is a beautiful 41-acre park located off of Coast Guard Road (turn right just after reaching Deer Horn Dunes). Park amenities include: disc golf course, floating dock, four grills, handicapped accessible, picnic pavilion, pier, restrooms, NC birding trail, and walking and hiking trails. On these trails, you get to experience land that has remained untouched for hundreds of years. There is lovely pier where you can fish, paddle a kayak or simply watch a gorgeous sunset.
Visit The Point in Emerald Isle. The Point is a local favorite spot located at the westernmost portion of Emerald Isle on Bogue Banks offering a large sandy beach ideal for surf fishing, shelling, photography, boating, and beach strolls. Sound inviting? Here’s how to get there. The Point in Emerald Isle is accessible by parking at Station Street Park located at 11001 Coast Guard Road. This beach access offers parking for 16 cars, a beautiful shade tree, picnic table, and a bike rack. From there it's only a short 1/4-mile walk to the beach and to The Point and a really lovely stretch of beach. Beach driving is allowed with a permit. From this hidden gem you can see directly across Bogue Inlet and see Bear Island, home Hammocks Beach State Park.
Get to Know the Emerald Isle Public Beach & Water Access Points The beach and water access points are popular spots for beach goers, water lovers and nature enthusiasts of all kinds. The two main public beach accesses in Emerald Isle are the Western Ocean Regional Access (WORA) located less than a half-mile from the B. Cameron Langston Bridge off Islander Drive and beside Queen’s Court Condominiums, and the Eastern Ocean Regional Access (EORA) located just over 6 miles from the B. Cameron Langston Bridge at 2701 Emerald Drive between Pier Point and Ocean Reef condominiums. Both beach access points are home to many local events and activities found throughout the year here, too. The Emerald Isle boat launch facility is located on Bogue Sound at 6800 Emerald Drive near mile marker 18 on NC 58 (adjacent to Chapel By The Sea). The facility includes 4 launching ramps and parking for 112 vehicle/trailer combinations, and a separate parking lot with 18 single vehicle spaces. The boat launch is managed by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. It is free and open all day every day.
The Emerald Path is an 11-mile multiuse pathway stretching from the Indian Beach town limits all the way to The Point at Bogue Inlet at the western end of Emerald Isle. The path follows County Road 58, passing through a diversity of landscapes, including grassy areas, shady woodlands and the heart of downtown. Specifically, the path winds through grassy areas along Coast Guard Road to Loon Drive, snakes through wooded areas from Loon Drive to the Welcome Center, meanders through the downtown district and passes the Municipal Complex at Black Skimmer Drive and ends at the eastern town limits. The bike path provides an alternative means of transportation to key destinations in Town, as well as provides an additional recreational opportunity in Emerald Isle. There is a variety of shopping and dining options including my FlipFlops Donut Shop at 7702 Emerald Drive alongside the trail as well as a grocery store, a pharmacy, and multiple surf shops. Because the Path sits on the spine of the island and the island is fairly narrow in places, it’s possible to view most of the island from there. There are plenty of beach access points no further than a block or two off the path. The path is ideal for walking, cycling and skating. No motorized vehicles are allowed on the Path. And, please, for your safety, obey the right of way and stop signs at every intersection.
